Dean Holmen was born on July 12th, 1959 in Madison, WI. He started playing guitar and drums at the age of 10 and started his first Band in 1972 (Black Diamond / 50s-60s music). Dean’s love for traditional country music led him to start a new band in 1973 playing country music. In 1974 Dean started playing school dances and local jobs until he joined the US ARMY in 1977. While serving in the Army at Ft. Campbell, KY, Dean joined a band (Lee & Country Drifters) in Clarksville TN. Dean was sent over to Germany in 1978 and started playing with the Army Recreational Band. He was on special duty assignment to play at NCO and O clubs all over Germany. In late 1979 Dean was sent back to Clarksville, TN. Dean started playing with the band, Country Stardust. He played clubs all over Tennessee. In late 1981 Dean was released from the Army and moved back to his home state of Wisconsin. He started playing with local bands throughout the midwest. In 1984 Dean joined Silver Wings Band. He played and recorded his first record in 1985 with Silver Wings Band.
After years of playing country, music Dean was not happy with the way country music was heading. In 2002 Dean headed to Nashville to start recording traditional country music. Holmen started The Music City Hayride as a way to help different charities. “This has been a lifelong passion and to be able to make this a reality still feels like a dream. “To see the faces of everyone we are able to assist throughout the year is the best feeling in the world. Throughout the last two years, we have been able to help with not only Music & Memory, Honor & Valor, and Operation Stand Down (TN), we have been able to assist with donations to Gatlinburg” Dean Holmen. On September 17th, 2017, Dean Holmen from Madison, Wisconsin received the “Humanitarian of the Year” award for his work with The Music City Hayride, a nonprofit Country Music show that benefits charities such as Music & Memories, Honor & Valor and Operation Stand Down (TN). “This is a wonderful award and an honor to receive,” states Holmen, President of Music City Hayride. “Knowing that The Josie Awards is the largest awards show, that features independent artists from around the world proves that The Music City Hayride is in fact, making a difference. The awards show took place at the Nissan Stadium and is the home of The Tennessee Titans.
